Bamidele Salam Urges Tinubu to Act on Killing of 14-Year-Old Osun Boy

Hon. Bamidele Salam, member representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the alleged killing of a 14-year-old boy in Ilobu, Osun State, and ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.

In an emotional public appeal addressed to the President, Salam condemned the killing, describing it as a tragic and avoidable act of violence allegedly carried out by political thugs linked to the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the lawmaker, the teenage victim was reportedly murdered in broad daylight in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area, in an attack witnessed by both his father and mother. He alleged that the assailants arrived in a branded bus associated with the APC governorship candidate in Osun State.

Salam lamented that while many Nigerians were celebrating Father's Day with their families, one father was left grieving the loss of his son due to what he described as politically motivated violence.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts further accused the Nigeria Police Force of failing to adequately investigate similar incidents and bring perpetrators to justice.

"Those who promote, encourage or enable violence against fellow human beings are unfit for leadership and must not be allowed to escape accountability," he said.

While stressing that he is a politician, Salam maintained that politics should never be used as a justification for violence, intimidation or murder.

The federal lawmaker appealed directly to President Tinubu, claiming that only the President's intervention could compel security authorities in the state to act decisively on the matter.

He specifically urged the President to direct the Osun State Commissioner of Police to immediately arrest and prosecute the suspected killers as well as any sponsors behind the attack.

"The blood of any human being is too sacred and too costly to be spilled without consequences," Salam stated, adding that justice must be served for the victim and other victims of political violence.

He concluded by reminding President Tinubu of his constitutional responsibility to protect lives and uphold justice, describing himself as "a mourning citizen and member of the House of Representatives" seeking justice for innocent victims.

The allegations have yet to receive an official response from the Osun State Police Command or the APC as of the time of filing this report.
