Court Grants Sowore ₦200m Bail, Orders Surrender of International Passport

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted fresh bail to activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, in the sum of ₦200 million.


The ruling came after the court considered Sowore's application seeking the restoration of his bail, which had earlier been revoked following his absence from a scheduled court sitting.


As part of the bail conditions, the court ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport with the court. He is also required to provide two sureties, including a traditional ruler from Abuja, while meeting other conditions set by the court within 24 hours.


The court had previously revoked Sowore's bail and issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court for the continuation of his trial over alleged cybercrime and criminal defamation charges. Sowore maintained that his absence resulted from procedural issues and had asked the court to restore his bail.


The charges against the activist stem from social media posts in which he allegedly described President Bola Tinubu as a "criminal." Sowore has pleaded not guilty to the allegations and insists the case is politically motivated.


With the new bail granted, Sowore is expected to comply with all the conditions imposed by the court as the trial continues.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
