Ekiti 2026: Over One Million Registered Voters Set to Decide Next Governor


 


As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, fresh electoral data has revealed the scale of the exercise that will determine the state's next leader.


According to available figures, Ekiti State has a total of 1,059,360 registered voters spread across the state's 16 local government areas, 177 electoral wards, and 2,445 polling units. The statistics underscore the importance of grassroots mobilization and voter engagement as political parties intensify preparations for the crucial election.


The race is already attracting considerable attention, with several prominent political figures being mentioned as potential contenders across party lines. Within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Biodun Oyebanji is widely expected to seek a second term in office, while discussions within opposition circles have continued to focus on notable figures such as Amb Oluwadare Abejide of African Democratic Party and other 15 candidates.


Political observers believe that the distribution of registered voters across the 16 local governments will play a decisive role in campaign strategies. Candidates are expected to target key voting blocs while strengthening their structures at the ward and polling unit levels to maximize electoral gains.


With 177 wards and 2,445 polling units serving as the foundation of the state's electoral architecture, parties are expected to prioritize grassroots organization, voter education, and effective election-day mobilization.


Analysts have noted that the 2026 governorship election will be a major test of political strength for both the APC and PDP, particularly as stakeholders begin consultations and coalition-building efforts ahead of party primaries.


As the countdown to the election continues, attention will remain focused on the emergence of candidates, campaign issues, and the ability of political parties to connect with the more than one million registered voters who will ultimately decide the future direction of Ekiti State.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
