The member representing Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Yaya Bauchi Tongo, has passed away.

Tongo reportedly died on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. News of his death was made public by former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, who disclosed that he had visited the lawmaker earlier in the day before receiving news of his passing a few hours later.

According to Pantami, the late lawmaker's health condition appeared critical during the visit, prompting prayers for his recovery. However, despite efforts and hopes for his survival, Tongo succumbed to the illness later that day at the Abuja-based hospital.

Before his death, Tongo represented the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He was elected in 2023 and was known for his involvement in legislative and political affairs in Gombe State. He had also recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His death has sparked an outpouring of condolences from political associates, constituents, and public figures across the country. Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, described the late lawmaker as a committed public servant whose contributions to the development of his constituency would be remembered.

As tributes continue to pour in, family members, political associates, and supporters are mourning the loss of a politician widely regarded as a dedicated representative of his people.
