Grief in Kwara as Five Abducted Church Worshippers Reportedly Die in Captivity

Tragedy has struck the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) congregation in Omugo, Oro Ago District of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, as five worshippers who were kidnapped during a church service have reportedly died while in captivity.
The victims were among eight worshippers abducted when suspected bandits stormed the church during a Sunday worship service earlier this year. The attackers reportedly fired gunshots to create panic before whisking away members of the congregation. Following the incident, three of the abductees managed to escape, leaving five others in the hands of their captors.
According to reports, information about the deaths emerged from one of the victims who escaped from the kidnappers' hideout. Sources familiar with the development disclosed that the five captives died after spending several weeks in captivity, although the exact circumstances surrounding their deaths have not been made public.
One of those reportedly confirmed dead was said to be the wife of the church minister, Pastor Omole. The heartbreaking news has reportedly been communicated to the affected families, throwing the community into mourning.
The attack had earlier drawn condemnation from the Kwara State Government, which praised security agencies, forest guards, and local vigilantes for rescuing three victims and intensifying efforts to track down the perpetrators. However, the reported deaths of the remaining captives have renewed concerns over insecurity and kidnapping in parts of the state.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the reported deaths, while residents continue to call for stronger measures to protect vulnerable communities from criminal attacks.
