IAEA Calls for Strong Nuclear Verification in Iran After Conflict

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has stressed the need for a robust nuclear verification system in Iran following the recent conflict in the Middle East, saying it is essential to ensure the country does not develop nuclear weapons.


Speaking to journalists during a visit to Japan on Friday, Grossi said although Iran has repeatedly maintained that its nuclear programme is intended solely for peaceful purposes, international verification remains necessary.


He noted that the objective of the recent agreement involving Iran is to guarantee that the country does not pursue nuclear weapons, adding that declarations alone are insufficient without independent inspections.


According to Grossi, the IAEA is prepared to resume verification activities as soon as conditions permit, stressing that a comprehensive monitoring mechanism is vital to rebuilding confidence in Iran's nuclear programme.


The IAEA chief explained that effective inspections would help the international community confirm that Iran's nuclear activities remain within peaceful limits and comply with global non-proliferation standards.


The call comes after heightened tensions and military confrontations in the region raised fresh concerns over the security and transparency of Iran's nuclear facilities. The agency has continued to advocate cooperation from Tehran to enable inspectors to carry out their responsibilities without restrictions.


Grossi reiterated that sustained international oversight is indispensable to preventing nuclear proliferation and ensuring long-term stability in the Middle East.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
