Ijesa Youth Forum Meets Police, Demands Tough Action Against Criminals and Political Violence

The leadership of the Ijesa Youth Forum has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the youth to tackle growing security challenges in Ijesa land ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.


The call was made during a courtesy visit by the Forum's leadership to the Ayeso Police Area Command Headquarters on Friday, June 26, 2026, where they held discussions with the Area Commander on pressing security issues affecting the region.


During the meeting, the Forum expressed concern over the recent killings recorded in parts of Ijesa land, incidents of political violence in some areas of Ilesa, and reports suggesting that suspected bandits may be infiltrating communities under the guise of gold miners.


The youth body stressed the need for proactive policing and closer cooperation between security agencies and local communities to safeguard lives and property before, during, and after the governorship election.


The Forum also urged the Police Command to ensure that individuals involved in criminal activities are promptly arrested and prosecuted, warning against yielding to pressure from political actors seeking the release of suspects.


Commending the Ayeso Area Command for its efforts in maintaining peace and security across Ilesa and neighbouring communities, the Forum encouraged the police to sustain their commitment to protecting residents.


Responding, the Area Commander appreciated the visit and reaffirmed the Command's commitment to ensuring peace and security across the area. He appealed to residents, particularly young people, to support the police by providing credible and timely intelligence to aid crime prevention and law enforcement.


The meeting also addressed complaints of alleged extortion of commercial motorcycle operators by some police officers. The Area Commander assured the delegation that such misconduct would not be tolerated and urged members of the public to report any officer found engaging in extortion for appropriate disciplinary action.


The Ijesa Youth Forum reiterated its commitment to working with security agencies and other stakeholders to promote peace, security, and sustainable development across Ijesa land.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
