INEC Declares Dayo Faduyile Winner of Ondo South Senatorial By-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dayo Faduyile, as the winner of the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election conducted on Saturday.


The result was announced on Sunday at the collation centre in Okitipupa by the Returning Officer, Professor Gbenga Solomon-Ibileye, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja. According to INEC, Faduyile secured 68,474 votes to emerge victorious in the poll. 


His closest challenger, Adeolu Akinwunmi of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), polled 1,411 votes, while Adesanya Olaoluwa of the Action Peoples Party (APP) and Clement Funso-Nejo of the Boot Party (BP) garnered 213 and 70 votes respectively. 


INEC disclosed that a total of 70,770 votes were cast during the election, with 602 ballots rejected. 


Speaking after the declaration, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Mutiu Agboke, described the by-election as an important test for the commission ahead of the 2027 general elections. He noted that lessons learned from the exercise would help improve future electoral processes and commended election personnel for their efforts, particularly those deployed to riverine communities. 


The by-election was conducted across six local government areas—Okitipupa, Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Irele, Odigbo and Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo—and was necessitated by the appointment of former senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, which created a vacancy in the Senate. 


With the victory, Dayo Faduyile, a former President of the Nigerian Medical Association, is set to represent Ondo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly for the remainder of the current legislative term.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
