Lagos Assembly Begins Statewide Inspection of Local Government Projects

The Lagos State House of Assembly has commenced a comprehensive inspection of projects being executed across the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state as part of its constitutional oversight responsibilities.

The exercise, which began on Monday, June 22, 2026, is being conducted by the House Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development. According to the committee, the inspection is aimed at promoting accountability, transparency, and effective service delivery at the grassroots level.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Sanni Babatunde, said the lawmakers would assess the progress of both ongoing and completed projects, evaluate their impact on residents, and ensure that public funds allocated for development projects are properly utilized.

Babatunde noted that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people and play a critical role in delivering essential services and infrastructure to communities. He explained that the oversight tour would help determine whether projects were executed according to approved specifications and whether they meet the needs of residents.

The committee is expected to inspect a wide range of projects, including road construction and rehabilitation, drainage systems, healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure, markets, and other community development initiatives undertaken by the councils.

Babatunde emphasized that the exercise is not intended to witch-hunt any local government administration but rather to strengthen good governance, institutional accountability, and prudent management of public resources.

He reaffirmed the committee's commitment to supporting policies and programmes that promote grassroots development, improve local governance, and enhance the quality of life of residents across Lagos State.

The inspection is expected to provide lawmakers with firsthand information on the status of projects across the state and help ensure that councils deliver maximum value to residents through effective utilization of public funds.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
