The Nigeria Democratic Congress has announced a series of far-reaching resolutions aimed at strengthening internal democracy, enforcing party discipline, and establishing itself as a lasting political institution.

In a statement issued after its second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the party reaffirmed the principle of party supremacy, declaring that all governments elected on its platform must consult the party structure on major policies, programmes, and appointments, except for personal staff appointments.

The NEC emphasized that members must place the interests of the party above personal ambitions and align their activities with the collective goals of the organisation.

As part of efforts to consolidate control and coordination, the party directed that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organisations operating within its fold must function under the guidance of the party and not independently of its structures.

The NEC also approved the establishment of a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates. A committee headed by the National Legal Adviser has been mandated to develop the framework and implementation guidelines.

In a move to heal internal divisions, the party inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee tasked with engaging and reconciling aggrieved members across the country.

The party further stressed that it is being built as a permanent institution rather than a personality-driven platform or temporary political vehicle. Members were urged to remain committed to its long-term growth and sustainability.

On financial transparency, the NEC adopted strict accountability measures requiring party officers to ensure that party funds are used solely for official activities. Candidates seeking elective positions will also be required to disclose all campaign funding sources and channel contributions through designated party campaign accounts at the appropriate levels.

The resolutions were contained in a statement signed by Osa Director, National Publicity Secretary of the party, on June 7, 2026.
