NLC Orders Shutdown of Council Secretariats Over Sacked APC Chairmen
By Abdulahi Musa
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Osun State Council, has directed local government workers across the state to deny access to sacked APC “Yes/No” Local Government Chairmen and their political appointees following a recent Federal High Court ruling.
In a directive issued on Monday, the NLC instructed members of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in all 30 Local Government Areas, Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), and Area Offices to immediately lock the gates of council secretariats against the affected chairmen, councillors, and political appointees.
The order followed the decision of the Federal High Court in Osogbo, which dismissed a motion seeking to stay the execution of its earlier judgment filed by the affected chairmen. According to the labour body, the court held that the former council officials were not entitled to any tenure extension and awarded costs against them.
In a statement signed by the Osun NLC Chairperson, Comrade (Dr.) Christopher Abimbola Arapasopo, the union described the chairmen’s continued claim to office as “null, void, and of no legal consequence” in view of the court's decision.
The NLC further directed workers to safeguard vital administrative offices and government property while continuing their official duties without fear or disruption.
Workers were also advised to promptly report any attempt by the affected officials or their supporters to forcefully gain access to council premises to the NLC leadership and relevant security agencies.
The directive takes immediate effect and will remain in force pending further communication from the Osun State Council of the NLC.
