No More Sharing Your Number: WhatsApp Introduces Usernames

WhatsApp has announced the rollout of a new username feature designed to give users greater privacy by allowing them to connect with others without sharing their personal phone numbers.


In a statement, the Meta-owned messaging platform said the feature will begin rolling out this week, enabling users to reserve a unique username ahead of its full launch later this year.


According to WhatsApp, the new feature is intended to provide users with a safer and more private way to communicate, especially in situations where they prefer not to disclose their phone numbers.


"Your phone number is personal, and sometimes you want to connect without handing it over. That's why we're introducing usernames for WhatsApp," the company said.


To reserve a username, users are advised to update to the latest version of the WhatsApp application. Once updated, they can navigate to Settings > Account > Username and choose an available username.


WhatsApp noted that reserving a username takes only a few seconds and will allow users to secure their preferred identity before the feature becomes widely available later this year.


The introduction of usernames is expected to enhance user privacy while making it easier for people to connect on the platform without exposing their personal contact details.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
