“No One Can Dictate Rivers Votes” — Atiku Blasts Wike’s 2027 Prediction
By Kehinde Awosina
Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed recent political remarks credited to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, insisting that the people of Rivers State remain the ultimate deciders of their political future.
Atiku stressed that no political actor, regardless of influence or office, has the power to predetermine how Rivers voters will behave in the 2027 general elections.
His reaction follows Wike’s assertion that Atiku would struggle to secure even minimal support in Rivers State during the upcoming presidential election. Wike reportedly made the comments at a political event in Port Harcourt, where he expressed confidence in his political influence and grassroots structure within the state.
The former Rivers State governor also maintained that opposition forces would find it difficult to make meaningful electoral impact in the state, predicting a weak showing for Atiku and his political bloc.
Responding through his camp, Atiku described such claims as political rhetoric, arguing that Nigerians are increasingly focused on issues affecting their daily lives, including economic hardship, insecurity, and governance challenges, rather than election-time posturing.
His team further maintained that the ADC-led coalition is building support around national recovery, reform, and unity, rather than relying on intimidation or political dominance claims.
They added that the outcome of the 2027 elections would be determined solely by the will of the electorate, not by political predictions or declarations.
The development reflects the growing political tension and early positioning among major actors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
