No Rejection Yet: Reno Omokri Clarifies Delay in Mexico’s Approval of Ambassador Role
By Abdulahi Musa
Reno Former presidential aide and ambassador-designate, Reno Omokri, has addressed concerns over why Mexico has yet to formally accept his appointment as Mexico ambassador-designate, clarifying issues surrounding diplomatic approval processes.
Omokri explained that the delay is part of standard international diplomatic procedures, noting that ambassadorial postings require formal consent—known as agrément—from the host country before an envoy can fully assume duties.
He stressed that his designation by the Nigerian government does not automatically translate into immediate acceptance by the receiving country, adding that such processes often take time due to security vetting and bilateral considerations.
The former presidential aide also dismissed speculation suggesting political interference or rejection, maintaining that there has been no official refusal from Mexican authorities.
According to him, discussions and clearance procedures are still ongoing, and he remains confident that the diplomatic process will be concluded appropriately in due course.
Omokri, who was recently named among Nigeria’s non-career ambassadorial appointees, has continued to attract public attention due to his previous political commentary and shifting stance on the current administration.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serve Nigeria’s interests abroad once all diplomatic protocols are completed.
