Ondo LG Shuts Down All Schools, Cites Threat to Students’ Safety

The Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Taiwo Adegoroye, has directed the immediate closure of all public and private schools across the council area following growing security concerns.

According to reports, the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to safeguard students, teachers, and school personnel amid intelligence indicating potential security threats within the area. Authorities said the closure is intended to prevent any possible attack on educational institutions while security agencies intensify surveillance and protective measures.

Adegoroye stressed that the safety of residents, particularly schoolchildren, remains the council's top priority. He noted that the local government, in collaboration with security agencies, would continue to assess the situation and determine when schools can safely resume academic activities.

The development comes amid heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of the country, including incidents of kidnappings and attacks on schools. Similar precautionary closures have been implemented in other states in response to credible security intelligence aimed at protecting students and preventing disruptions to learning.

Residents and parents have been urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to maintain peace and order in the area.
