Osun Guber Race Takes New Turn as Oyinlola, PDP Stakeholders Back APM's Adebayo

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has endorsed the governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adewale Adebayo, ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State. 


The endorsement was announced on Wednesday during a political gathering in Okuku, Osun State, where Oyinlola, accompanied by former Secretary to the State Government, Fatai Akinbade, and former PDP South-West Vice Chairman, Tajudeen Oladipo, publicly declared support for Adebayo's candidacy. 


Speaking at the event, Oyinlola explained that the endorsement was a reflection of an existing alliance between the Turaki-led PDP faction and the APM at the national level. According to him, the partnership is now being replicated in Osun State as part of efforts to strengthen their political collaboration. He subsequently presented the APM flag to Adebayo as a symbol of the faction's support for his governorship ambition. 


In his remarks, Adebayo expressed confidence in his chances at the polls, insisting that his campaign was focused on winning the election rather than negotiating political deals. He stated that Osun youths and residents were seeking credible leadership and a viable alternative capable of addressing the state's challenges. He also appealed to political leaders and stakeholders to support his bid for the state's top office. 


The August 15 governorship election is expected to feature key contenders, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
