Outrage as UNIOSUN Students Allege Assault by Nigerian Army Recruits in Osogbo

Reports from Osogbo, Osun State, indicate that students of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) Main Campus were allegedly subjected to harassment, physical assault, and other forms of abuse by some newly recruited personnel of the Nigerian Army within the last 24 hours.


According to accounts from affected students and residents, the incident reportedly occurred in hostels and residential areas surrounding the university, which is located close to the Nigerian Army Depot in Osogbo. Witnesses alleged that the recruits stormed several student hostels, assaulted male students, intimidated residents, and allegedly subjected some female students to degrading treatment.


Some students also claimed that personal belongings, including valuables, were stolen during the alleged invasion, although these claims have yet to be independently verified.


The incident has triggered widespread concern among students, parents, civil society organisations, and members of the public, with many condemning the alleged actions and calling for an immediate investigation.


Student leaders and other stakeholders described the reported incident as disturbing, warning that such actions could threaten the long-standing peaceful relationship between the university community and security institutions operating in the state.


As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army had not issued a comprehensive official statement addressing the allegations.


In response to the reports, concerned stakeholders have urged the Federal Government, the Chief of Army Staff, the Osun State Government, the National Human Rights Commission, and other relevant security agencies to launch a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.


They stressed that the safety, dignity, and fundamental rights of students must be protected at all times, while anyone found culpable after due investigation should be held accountable in accordance with the law.


Authorities are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the allegations as investigations unfold.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
