Oyinlola Denies Rift With Adeleke, Blames Governor’s Handlers, Clarifies AMBO Visit

 By Kehinde Awosina

Former Osun State Governor, , has dismissed reports of a rift between him and Governor , insisting that there is no friction between them and attributing perceived tensions to the actions of some political associates around the governor.

Speaking during an interview on Western Spring Television, Oyinlola described Adeleke as a sincere leader who does not tolerate unnecessary distractions but alleged that some of the governor’s handlers are attempting to influence him for their personal interests.

According to the former governor, Adeleke had personally informed him after his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that certain party members were opposed to his rejoining the fold.

“It is not true that I have any friction with Demola Adeleke. Demola Adeleke is a sincere man with no mind to accommodate nonsense, but the headache is some of his handlers who want to tune him to their whims and caprices,” Oyinlola stated.

The former governor also lamented what he described as attempts by one of his former protégés to create disaffection between him and the governor.

“It is quite unfortunate that one of my boys whom I brought up is playing Judas on me to cause disaffection between Governor Adeleke and me,” he said.

Reflecting on the political journey that brought Adeleke to power, Oyinlola admitted that he initially harboured doubts about Adeleke’s ability to govern Osun State when he first emerged as a governorship aspirant in 2018.

He, however, noted that once Adeleke secured the PDP ticket, he committed himself fully to supporting his candidacy and campaigned vigorously for his victory.

Oyinlola further recalled his relationship with the late former governor, , stressing that despite political contests between them, he never denied the late politician the privileges due to a former governor.

The ex-governor revealed that one of the earliest laws enacted during his administration was aimed at restoring rights and entitlements that had previously been withdrawn from Isiaka Adeleke.

On speculations surrounding his alleged endorsement of governorship aspirants ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship race, Oyinlola clarified that consultations by politicians seeking his advice should not be interpreted as endorsements.

He specifically addressed reports linking him to the aspirations of APC gubernatorial candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji; AMBO, stating that the politician merely visited him for consultation.

“As a former governor and leader in Osun State, it is not out of place for me to be consulted by anyone aspiring for a governorship position as to what their plans are for the state. That does not translate to me endorsing any candidate. AMBO only came to consult with me,” Oyinlola said.

His remarks come amid growing political realignments and heightened consultations among key stakeholders as preparations gradually gather momentum ahead of future electoral contests in Osun State.
