Former Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki, has praised the rising trajectory of Nigerian football talent following reports that 18-year-old Zadok Yohanna, a young player from Bauchi State, has secured a sensational £21.5 million move to English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

Saraki described Yohanna’s journey—from leaving Bauchi for Kaduna in pursuit of a football dream to moving to Sweden less than a year ago—as a powerful example of what Nigerian youth can achieve when talent meets opportunity, discipline, and structured support.

He noted that the teenager’s rise into one of Europe’s most competitive football markets reflects the untapped potential of Nigerian youths, stressing that many more success stories remain possible if adequate systems are put in place.

Recalling his involvement in youth sports development, Saraki referenced the establishment of the Kwara Football Academy and ABS FC, which he said have produced several players now active in local and international clubs.

He called on the Nigeria Football Federation, the National Sports Commission, and the National Institute for Sports to expand frameworks that support football academies and talent discovery nationwide.

“Nigerians are an extraordinarily talented people,” he said, adding that stories like Yohanna’s should inspire greater investment in grassroots development.

He congratulated the young forward, urging him to remain focused and grounded: “The world can now see your talent, but this is only the beginning.”
