SERAP Demands Recovery of N110bn from Lawmakers Over Illegal Allowances, Car Purchases

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called for the recovery of about N110 billion from federal lawmakers following a court ruling that nullified certain allowances and provisions, including funds used for car purchases and other benefits.


According to a report,  the civic group made the demand after a judgment that declared the controversial allowances and related expenditures illegal and unconstitutional.


SERAP argued that the funds, which were previously allocated to lawmakers for various perks such as vehicle procurement and other entitlements, should be returned to the public treasury in line with the court’s decision.


The organization maintained that failure to recover the money would undermine the rule of law and encourage continued misuse of public funds within the legislative arm of government.


It further urged relevant anti-corruption agencies to immediately begin the process of identifying affected lawmakers and ensuring full compliance with the court ruling, stressing that public resources must be accounted for and redirected toward national development priorities.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit. The development marks another early gain for Accord as the collation of results from polling units across Osun State continues.
