Tinubu Approves 27 Road Projects Worth N3.9 Trillion Across 15 States

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved 27 major road infrastructure projects valued at more than N3.9 trillion, spanning 15 states across the country, in what the Federal Government describes as part of its renewed push to improve transportation, boost economic activities, and enhance regional connectivity.

The approval, announced by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, covers road construction, dualisation, rehabilitation, flyover projects, and highway maintenance concessions across Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, and Yobe states.

The largest approval is the N1.8 trillion re-award of the 409-kilometre dual carriageway project in Niger State under the tax credit scheme to industrialist Aliko Dangote.

Other notable projects include the N276 billion dualisation of the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road, the N265 billion reconstruction of the Iseyin–Eruwa–Agbesi Road linking Oyo and Kwara states, and the N217 billion dualisation of the old alignment from Ijaye through the Federal Government College corridor to Ilorin Road with a spur to Akinmorin.

The Federal Executive Council also approved N116 billion for the reconstruction of the 21-kilometre Abakaliki–Afikpo Road in Ebonyi State, N110 billion for the Ogbomoso–Oko–Illupu Road connecting Oyo and Osun states, and N104 billion for the rehabilitation of Sections One and Two of the Ilorin–Omorin–Ebe–Kabba–Obajana Road traversing Kwara and Kogi states.

Additional approvals include the N98 billion construction of the 30-kilometre Idi-Araba–Ayede–Olodo Road in Oyo State, N92 billion for the rehabilitation of the Baban-Lamba–Sharan Phase Two Road in Plateau State, and N86 billion each for the reconstruction of the Enugu–Abakaliki Road with a flyover and the Adikpo–Ajayi–Tese–Akpa–Otukpo Road linking Benue and Cross River states.

In Adamawa State, the government approved N83 billion for the Jimeta–Mayo Belwa Road project, N58 billion for the second phase of the Yola–Hong–Mubi Road rehabilitation, and N15.246 billion for the second phase of the Yola–Fufore–Gurin Road project.

Other projects approved include the rehabilitation and construction of roads in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Lagos, Kwara, Kogi, Taraba, Niger, Yobe, and Ebonyi states, alongside several flyovers and bridge projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving road safety.

The Council also approved the full business case for the operation and maintenance concession of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and directed the immediate reconstruction of failed sections of the Ibadan axis using concrete pavement to improve durability.

Providing an update on ongoing federal highway projects, Umahi disclosed that the first 118-kilometre section of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Highway, valued at N137 billion, has been completed. He added that construction on the remaining 164-kilometre stretch is expected to be completed by November.

The approvals form part of the Federal Government's ongoing investment in critical road infrastructure aimed at improving interstate transportation, reducing travel time, and supporting economic growth across Nigeria.
