President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State and deployed a special rescue team following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The Federal Government disclosed this on Sunday during a visit by a high-powered delegation to Esiele and Yawota communities, where pupils and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School were abducted on May 15, 2026.

The delegation, led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s concern over the incident and reassured residents that the Federal Government was committed to securing the safe return of the victims.

Other members of the delegation included the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu; the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa; and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare.

Speaking during the visit in both English and Yoruba, Gbajabiamila said President Tinubu was deeply disturbed by the abduction and had ordered all security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims safely.

According to him, the President has directed the deployment of a specialised security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to coordinate intelligence-led operations aimed at securing the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.

“Mr. President is deeply troubled by this incident. Whatever it takes, our children and teachers will be brought back home safely. He has issued all necessary directives and is providing every support required by our security agencies to achieve that objective,” Gbajabiamila said.

He also assured worried parents and community members that the rescue operation would involve both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to ensure the victims are returned unharmed.

As part of efforts to strengthen security across the affected communities, the Federal Government approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in collaboration with the Oyo State Government.

The delegation further revealed that requests by residents for the establishment of a military base in the area would be forwarded to President Tinubu for consideration and approval.

During the visit, the Federal Government delegation also paid a condolence visit to the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, where they sympathised with the traditional ruler and residents over the tragic incident.

The delegation later visited the family of the deceased teacher, Mrs. Mary Oyedokun, where Gbajabiamila delivered President Tinubu’s condolences and assured the bereaved family that the Federal Government would provide support and ensure they do not suffer in the aftermath of the tragedy.
