Tinubu Extends Customs CG Adeniyi’s Tenure by Six Months

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a six-month extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, allowing him to remain in office beyond his statutory retirement date.


According to the Presidency, the extension is aimed at enabling Adeniyi to conclude key reforms and strategic initiatives currently underway within the Nigeria Customs Service. These include the ongoing modernization of customs operations, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the fulfillment of Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework. 


President Tinubu commended Adeniyi’s leadership and contributions to the service, expressing confidence that the extension would help sustain reforms targeted at improving trade facilitation, boosting revenue generation, and strengthening border security. 


Adeniyi, who was initially appointed Acting Comptroller-General in June 2023 before his appointment was confirmed later that year, has overseen several reforms in customs administration, including digitalization efforts and trade facilitation initiatives. Under his leadership, the service has also intensified anti-smuggling operations and pursued policies aimed at improving efficiency in cargo clearance and border management. 


The extension is expected to provide continuity for ongoing projects and ensure the completion of critical customs modernization programmes considered important to Nigeria’s economic and trade objectives.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
