Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, after she was abducted by armed bandits in Katsina State.

The rescue was carried out during sustained operations under the ongoing military campaign known as Operation FASAN YAMMA, following intensified search-and-rescue missions across affected areas.

According to a press release issued by the Defence Headquarters, troops engaged the bandits at Tunga Village after mounting pressure and continuous offensive operations forced the criminals into a retreat. During the encounter, the bandits reportedly shot Mrs. Abubakar before fleeing the scene due to superior firepower and advancing troops.

She was promptly evacuated to a military medical facility where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively, according to military authorities.

The Defence Headquarters stated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain fully committed to her recovery and are providing necessary medical and logistical support to her family during this difficult period.

Military authorities also confirmed that follow-up operations are ongoing to track and neutralize the fleeing attackers, as part of broader efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks across Katsina State and other parts of the country.

The statement was signed by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, on June 15, 2026.
