“You Embarrassed Nigeria!” — Rarara Blasts Davido Over World Cup Protest

Popular Hausa musician and staunch APC supporter, Dauda Kahutu Rarara, has criticised Afrobeats star Davido over the singer's decision to use the FIFA World Cup platform to highlight insecurity in Nigeria.

The disagreement followed Davido's appearance at a FIFA World Cup event, where he wore a jacket bearing the inscription "Bring Them Home" alongside the names of abducted schoolchildren from Oyo State. The gesture was intended to draw international attention to the country's security challenges and the plight of kidnapped victims.

Reacting to the move, Rarara accused Davido of portraying Nigeria negatively before a global audience, arguing that the singer's action embarrassed the country and projected a poor image of the nation at an international event. According to him, national issues should not be showcased in a manner that could damage Nigeria's reputation abroad.

Davido, however, rejected the criticism, insisting that Nigerians must not remain silent in the face of insecurity. The singer maintained that speaking up for victims of abduction and violence was a patriotic duty rather than an attempt to tarnish the country's image. He argued that drawing global attention to the plight of affected families could help generate awareness and pressure for action.

The singer's advocacy has attracted support from several Nigerians, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi, who commended Davido for using his global platform to spotlight insecurity and the suffering of abducted children. Obi described the gesture as a remarkable effort to bring international attention to an important national issue.

The exchange has since generated widespread debate on social media, with many Nigerians divided over whether Davido's action was a necessary act of advocacy or an inappropriate criticism of the country on the world stage.
