10 Killed, Six Injured in Ogun Auto Crash

No fewer than 10 persons have been confirmed dead, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal road accident along the Ijebu-Ode–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.


The accident occurred on Saturday at the Omu Bridge area and involved a Mitsubishi bus with registration number EJ829-LSR and a truck marked T14007LA.


According to the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, the crash was caused by excessive speed and dangerous overtaking, which led to a head-on collision between the two vehicles.


Okpe disclosed that 16 people were involved in the accident, comprising 10 male adults and six female adults. She said 10 victims lost their lives, while the remaining six sustained injuries of varying severity.


She added that FRSC rescue personnel responded promptly to the scene, evacuated the injured victims to a nearby hospital for treatment and deposited the bodies of the deceased at the morgue.


The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Ogun State, Akinwumi Fasakin, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking and other traffic violations capable of causing fatal crashes.


He also advised road users to exercise patience, obey traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys to reduce accidents on Nigerian highways.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
