Adeleke to IGP: Arrest Anyone Behind Osun Violence — Even My Son

Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, have agreed on tougher measures to curb political violence in Osun State, with both leaders insisting that anyone involved in killings, attacks or political thuggery should be arrested and prosecuted regardless of political affiliation.

During a meeting at the Government House in Osogbo on Friday, Adeleke accused the state Commissioner of Police of acting in a partisan manner and alleged that the officer had become a tool of APC propaganda. He urged the IGP to ensure impartial policing and to remove any officer whose conduct undermines public confidence.

IGP Disu said his visit was aimed at restoring peace and preventing further violence ahead of the state's political activities. He disclosed that police commands had received strict orders to immediately arrest political thugs and their sponsors, stressing that elections must never be treated as warfare.

Describing the growing violence as unacceptable, the police chief said security agencies would not tolerate killings or attacks from any political group and assured residents that law enforcement would remain fair and unbiased.

Adeleke, while welcoming the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the IGP, declared that even members of his own family should not be spared if found guilty of violence.

 "Even if it is my son that is causing trouble, arrest him. We don't support or harbour violence," the governor said.

The governor also called for the reorganisation of the state's police anti-cultism and anti-violent crime units, alleging that some officers had compromised their neutrality. He further urged security agencies to tackle unresolved murder cases and the proliferation of illegal weapons across the state.

Both leaders appealed to political actors to shun violence and advised parents to discourage their children from engaging in political thuggery, insisting that peaceful and credible elections remain essential to the state's democratic process.
