After Months of Rift, Fubara Presents ₦1.854trn 2026 Budget to Amaewhule-Led Assembly

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday presented a proposed ₦1.854 trillion Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly, marking his first appearance before the legislature since the political crisis that split the Assembly in 2023. 


The budget, tagged "Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development," is aimed at sustaining economic growth, expanding infrastructure, improving education and healthcare, and strengthening human capital development across the state. 


Fubara said the proposed budget represents a 24.49 per cent increase over the adjusted 2025 budget. He attributed the projected rise in revenue to improved statutory allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), higher derivation earnings, and increased internally generated revenue. 


According to the governor, ₦413.1 billion is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while ₦1.405 trillion has been allocated for capital projects.


The sectoral breakdown of the capital budget includes:


₦533.3 billion for works and infrastructure;


₦315 billion for education;


₦105.4 billion for healthcare;


₦41.4 billion for the Rivers State House of Assembly;


₦30 billion for the judiciary; and


₦19.3 billion for agriculture. 


The governor's presentation followed a motion moved by Majority Leader Major Jack and seconded by Minority Leader Sylvanus Nwankwo, inviting him into the chamber after Speaker Martins Amaewhule took his seat. The event is seen as a significant step in restoring cooperation between the executive and legislature after months of political tension in the state.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
