Alaafin Makes Historic Visit to Africa's Largest Afro-Brazilian Museum

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has paid a historic visit to the Museu Nacional da Cultura Afro-Brasileira, regarded as Africa's largest Afro-Brazilian museum, as part of efforts to strengthen cultural ties between Nigeria and Brazil.


During the visit, the monarch toured the museum's galleries, which preserve centuries of Afro-Brazilian history, culture and the enduring influence of the Yoruba people in Brazil. He described the experience as a powerful reminder of the shared heritage linking both nations.


The Alaafin said the visit reinforced the importance of preserving Yoruba traditions across the African diaspora while promoting cultural exchange and cooperation. He noted that the historical connections between Oyo and Brazil remain strong despite the passage of time.


Museum officials welcomed the monarch and highlighted the institution's role in documenting the contributions of Africans and their descendants to Brazil's history, arts, religion and culture. They also expressed optimism that the visit would deepen collaboration in cultural preservation and tourism.


The visit formed part of the Alaafin's engagements in Brazil aimed at fostering stronger diplomatic and cultural relations, while encouraging greater appreciation of the Yoruba civilisation and its global influence.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
