APC Resorting to Violence Over Fear of Defeat, Says Adeleke Campaign Council

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has accused the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating violent attacks against residents, alleging that the opposition party has abandoned issue-based campaigns in favour of intimidation as the August 15, 2026, governorship election approaches.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council claimed that recent attacks by suspected political thugs linked to the APC reflected what it described as the party's desperation over its dwindling political fortunes and fear of electoral defeat.

The campaign council alleged that despite efforts to mobilise supporters from outside the state, the APC had failed to gain public acceptance in major towns across Osun, prompting what it described as a strategy of violence and provocation aimed at disrupting the political atmosphere and discouraging voter participation.

According to the council, the alleged attacks have failed to intimidate residents, who it said remain focused on Governor Ademola Adeleke's performance and the state's development rather than political confrontation.

The TICC urged Osun residents to remain peaceful, continue their lawful activities and resist any attempt to provoke unrest, insisting that voters would ultimately determine the outcome of the election through the ballot.

The council also called on eligible voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing the cards as the most effective tool for defending democracy and safeguarding the mandate of the electorate. It further urged the APC to ensure that its supporters do not disrupt PVC collection centres across the state.

The statement maintained that Governor Adeleke's administration has continued to improve workers' welfare and deliver developmental projects, contrasting this with what it described as the APC's record while in government.

Reaffirming confidence in the forthcoming governorship election, the campaign council expressed optimism that Osun voters would re-elect Governor Adeleke and reject what it alleged were attempts to undermine the democratic process through violence.

The APC had not responded to the allegations at the time the statement was issued.
