Atiku Demands Tinubu's Resignation Over PFIPC Account Controversy

Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign over what he described as conflicting explanations by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regarding the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) accounts.


In a statement, Atiku said the contradictory narratives from the two government institutions had exposed what he called a government "trapped by its own contradictions." He argued that the inconsistencies surrounding the management and existence of the PFIPC accounts had further eroded public confidence in the Tinubu administration. He maintained that Nigerians deserve transparency and accountability in the management of public finances.


The former Vice President alleged that the conflicting positions taken by the OAGF and the CBN pointed to serious governance failures and raised concerns over the integrity of the administration's financial management. He insisted that the government had failed to provide a clear and credible explanation on the matter.


According to Atiku, the controversy has deepened concerns about transparency in government and reinforced calls for greater accountability from public institutions. He urged relevant authorities to disclose the full details of the PFIPC accounts and explain the discrepancies between the statements issued by the OAGF and the CBN.


The ADC presidential candidate argued that President Tinubu should accept responsibility for the controversy, saying the conflicting official accounts amounted to a breach of public trust. He maintained that resignation would be the most honourable course of action if the administration could not provide a satisfactory explanation for the discrepancies.


The Federal Government has yet to issue a fresh response to Atiku's latest demand.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
