Budget 2026: FG Agencies Allocate Nearly ₦400bn for Mosques, Palaces, Community Halls

About 78 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government have earmarked nearly ₦400 billion in the proposed 2026 budget for the construction, renovation and rehabilitation of mosques, traditional rulers' palaces, community halls, village market squares and civic centres across the country. 


An analysis of the 2026 Appropriation Bill showed that the allocations are spread across several government agencies, with projects described as constituency-based interventions and community development initiatives.


The proposed spending comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with economic challenges, including rising inflation, high public debt and calls for increased investment in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure and security. 


Critics have questioned the priority given to the projects, arguing that scarce public funds should be directed towards addressing pressing national needs rather than constructing or renovating religious and traditional institutions.


Supporters of the allocations, however, maintain that the projects will improve community infrastructure, preserve cultural heritage and stimulate local economic activities.


The proposed expenditures are expected to undergo scrutiny by the National Assembly during deliberations on the 2026 Appropriation Bill before the budget is passed into law.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
