A Chief Magistrate Court in Yola, Adamawa State, has fined Omar Suleiman ₦3 million for violating the state's environmental regulations by pasting campaign posters on public structures across the state capital.
The judgment was delivered by Chief Magistrate Musa Adamu after proceedings initiated by the Adamawa State Ministry of Environment, the Adamawa State Urban Planning Board, and the Office of the Attorney-General. The court ruled that the offence was administrative rather than criminal, but held the aspirant liable for breaching environmental laws.
In addition to the ₦3 million fine, the court directed Suleiman to caution his supporters against placing campaign posters on public infrastructure, noting that such actions violate the executive order regulating the use of public structures for political advertisements in Adamawa State.
Reacting to the ruling, Suleiman's lawyer, Barrister Bals Sanga, welcomed the judgment, saying the defence had consistently argued that the matter was administrative and not criminal. A representative of the Omarana Campaign Organisation also described the decision as fair while urging supporters to comply with environmental regulations.
