CAF Officially Names Rangers, Rivers United for 2026/27 Champions League Qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed the clubs that will participate in the preliminary rounds of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League, with Nigerian champions Rangers International and runners-up Rivers United among the teams set to represent the country.


CAF also released the calendar for the inter-club competitions, with the first preliminary round scheduled for September. The second preliminary round will follow in October before the group stage begins later in the year.


Rangers secured their place after winning the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League title, while Rivers United qualified by finishing second in the league standings. Nigeria's third continental representative, Shooting Stars, will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.


The confirmation marks the start of preparations for the Nigerian clubs as they aim to improve the country's performance in continental competitions during the new season.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit. The development marks another early gain for Accord as the collation of results from polling units across Osun State continues.
