Christians Now More Comfortable With Muslim-Muslim Ticket Under Tinubu — APC Chieftain Farouk Aliyu

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Farouk Aliyu, has defended the retention of the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that Christians across Nigeria have become more accepting of the arrangement under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.

Aliyu said President Tinubu's decision to retain the same ticket reflects his confidence in a team that has delivered on its mandate, adding that the President believes there is no need to alter what he described as a "winning team."

Speaking on the issue, the APC stalwart stated that concerns expressed by some Christian groups during the build-up to the 2023 elections have significantly reduced, as many Nigerians now recognise that the administration is not governed by religious considerations.

According to him, "President Tinubu, in his wisdom, understands that you don't change a winning team. Christians in Nigeria are now far more comfortable with the Muslim-Muslim ticket than they were when the Tinubu administration assumed office."

Aliyu maintained that no Nigerian has been marginalised on the basis of religion under the current administration, stressing that President Tinubu governs the country as a leader of all Nigerians rather than through a religious prism.

"No one in Nigeria is being marginalised along religious lines. President Tinubu is leading this nation as a Nigerian, not through a religious lens. We are pleased that the ticket remains unchanged," he said.

His remarks come amid renewed political discussions over the APC's likely strategy for the 2027 presidential election, including expectations that President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will again fly the party's Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The Muslim-Muslim ticket generated widespread debate before the 2023 general election, with critics arguing that it failed to reflect Nigeria's religious diversity. However, supporters of the arrangement have consistently maintained that competence and national interest should take precedence over religious considerations in leadership selection.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
