Nigeria's Youngest Chartered Accountant Reveals How Failing ICAN Exam Inspired Her Historic Success at 16


Nigeria's youngest chartered accountant, Osasere Okundaye, has shared the inspiring story behind her remarkable achievement, revealing that she failed one of her final examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) before eventually qualifying at just 16 years old. 


Okundaye made the disclosure during a visit to the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Daniel Olukoya, where she recounted her three-year journey to becoming a chartered accountant.


According to her, she began the ICAN journey shortly after completing secondary school, following the advice of her parents, who encouraged her to enrol in the Accounting Technicians Scheme (ATS) instead of waiting until she was old enough to enter university. 


She explained that the transition was difficult because she had no accounting background in secondary school, making the early stages of the programme particularly challenging. Despite the obstacles, she dedicated herself to intensive study and successfully passed the initial stages of the examinations.


Recalling one of the toughest moments in her journey, Okundaye revealed that she failed one of her final professional papers last year. Rather than giving up, she prepared for the resit, rewrote the examination earlier this year, and passed, ultimately earning her qualification as a chartered accountant at the age of 16. 


Speaking on her achievement, Olukoya described the milestone as evidence of God's faithfulness and a reflection of discipline, resilience and commitment to excellence. He said her success should inspire young people to pursue their dreams regardless of their age.


The feat also drew praise from Ayodele Olawande, who commended Okundaye as a shining example of the immense potential of Nigerian youths.


By qualifying at 16, Okundaye has set a new national record, surpassing the previous youngest chartered accountant, who attained the qualification at the age of 17 in 2022.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
