First Remembrance Prayers for Buhari to Hold July 13

A solemn prayer and remembrance gathering will be held on Monday, July 13, to mark the first anniversary of the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.


The announcement was made by former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, who said the event is intended to honour Buhari's life, leadership and years of service to Nigeria.


In a statement released on Tuesday, Ahmad described the late former president as a leader who served the nation with commitment, integrity, discipline and patriotism. He noted that Buhari's contributions to Nigeria's development would remain an enduring part of the country's history.


According to him, family members, friends, political associates, former aides and other Nigerians will gather for prayers and reflection, seeking Allah's forgiveness for Buhari's shortcomings and praying that he grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus while comforting his loved ones and the nation. 


Buhari died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness in London. His remains were later flown to Nigeria, where he was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.


He served as Nigeria's democratically elected president from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, becoming the first opposition candidate in the country's history to defeat an incumbent president in the 2015 presidential election. He was re-elected in 2019 and completed his second term in 2023. 


The remembrance programme is expected to provide an opportunity for family members, former associates, supporters and admirers to reflect on Buhari's leadership, legacy and contributions to Nigeria's political history.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit. The development marks another early gain for Accord as the collation of results from polling units across Osun State continues.
