Former Obi Ally Kenneth Okonkwo Becomes Atiku's Spokesperson

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has appointed actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo as his official spokesperson ahead of the 2027 general election. 


Okonkwo announced the appointment in a statement shared on his official X account on Thursday, expressing gratitude to Atiku for the confidence reposed in him.


"I give God all the glory to be appointed by His Excellency Atiku Abubakar as his spokesperson. I thank HE AA for the immense confidence reposed in me," he said. 


The former Labour Party chieftain described the appointment as a reflection of Atiku's leadership style, noting that the former vice president embraces dialogue and constructive engagement rather than taking offence at differing opinions.


Okonkwo disclosed that discussions with Atiku and other leaders of the ADC had addressed concerns over the interests of the South-East despite challenges posed by the Electoral Act, 2026. He said the region's interests had been guaranteed within the realities of the political process. 


He also appreciated former ADC National Chairman Ralphs Nwosu, Dr. Kashim Imam, and Atiku's Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Dr. Ekene Onwuka, for their contributions to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 elections. 


Okonkwo concluded by thanking his family, friends and supporters for their prayers and pledged to discharge his new responsibility with wisdom, courage and dedication.


The appointment comes only weeks after Okonkwo publicly criticised the party's choice of vice-presidential candidate, warning that it could further deepen the perceived marginalisation of the South-East in Nigeria's political leadership. Despite the earlier disagreement, his appointment signals a renewed working relationship with Atiku as preparations for the 2027 presidential election gather momentum.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
