Community unites to preserve Yoruba drumming tradition and cultural heritage


The Imesi-Ile Community, in collaboration with lovers of Yoruba culture, has announced plans to host the Imesi-Ile Drum Festival – Mini Fiesta & Ikọlújọ Competition on Saturday, September 5, 2026.


The cultural event will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Owa Ooye Palace Square, Imesi-Ile, bringing together drummers, cultural groups, dance troupes, traditional performers, and heritage enthusiasts in a celebration of Yoruba identity.


According to the organisers, the festival is aimed at preserving, promoting, and showcasing the rich traditions of Yoruba drumming while ensuring that the community's cultural heritage is passed on to future generations.


The committee noted that the drum remains the heartbeat of the Yoruba people, describing the festival as a call to protect and sustain indigenous rhythms, customs, and values.


The event will feature captivating performances with traditional instruments including dùndún, bàtá, gángan, àjẹ, Ìjẹ̀bú, ìbẹ̀mbẹ̀, sùkù, àyá, and Òsìrìgì, alongside the soul-stirring chants of Ikọlújọ.


Residents of Imesi-Ile, sons and daughters of the community at home and in the diaspora, friends of culture, and members of the public have been invited to attend in large numbers and witness what organisers describe as a colourful display of heritage, unity, and pride.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit. The development marks another early gain for Accord as the collation of results from polling units across Osun State continues.
