INEC Extends Deadline for Submission of 2027 Candidates to July 14

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the submission of candidates by political parties for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The Commission announced in a press release issued on Sunday that the previous deadline of Saturday, July 11, 2026, as contained in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, has now been shifted to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

According to INEC, the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which acted on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the stipulated timeframe.

The electoral body explained that the decision reflects its commitment to ensuring that all eligible political parties have a fair opportunity to complete the nomination process while remaining within the provisions of the law.

INEC urged political parties to make effective use of the additional time by ensuring that all required information and documents are uploaded before the new deadline expires.

The Commission reiterated that no further extension should be expected after the expiration of the revised timeline.

The statement was signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, and dated July 12, 2026.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
