Lamine Yamal Makes History As First Player Under 20 To Win Both Euro And World Cup

Spanish teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has become the first footballer under the age of 20 to win both the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup, cementing his status as one of the game's brightest young stars.


The historic feat was achieved after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at the New York/New Jersey Stadium on Sunday to claim their second world title. 


Yamal, who turned 19 earlier this month, played a key role throughout Spain's World Cup-winning campaign, adding the global title to the UEFA Euro 2024 trophy he won as a 17-year-old.


His latest achievement makes him the youngest player in football history to capture both major international honours before the age of 20, surpassing generations of legendary players who failed to achieve the feat so early in their careers. 


The Barcelona winger first announced himself on the global stage during Euro 2024 in Germany, where he helped Spain lift a record fourth European Championship. He was named the tournament's Young Player after producing a series of standout performances, including a spectacular goal against France in the semi-finals. 


Two years later, Yamal was again instrumental as Spain emerged champions at the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup, defeating defending champions Argentina courtesy of Ferran Torres' extra-time winner.


Beyond the team success, Yamal also became the first teenager to feature in both a UEFA European Championship final and a FIFA World Cup final, underlining his rapid rise in world football. 


The teenager's remarkable achievements have fuelled growing comparisons with some of football's greatest players, with many observers tipping him to dominate the sport for years to come.


Despite his age, Yamal has already established himself as one of Barcelona's most influential players and a key figure for the Spanish national team, with his pace, creativity and technical ability making him one of the standout performers of his generation.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
