Meet Osun's New Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale

As Osun State prepares for its crucial August 15, 2026 governorship election, the Nigeria Police Force has entrusted election security to a newly promoted senior officer, Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo Erale.


The Edo State-born police chief takes over as Osun's Commissioner of Police following his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police on July 1, 2026. Until his latest posting, he headed the Communications Operations Department at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he coordinated critical police communication and operational support.



CP Erale brings years of policing experience to his new assignment. Before his promotion, he served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration at the Rivers State Police Command, earning recognition for his commitment to professionalism, accountability, and administrative excellence. During his tenure, he championed capacity-building programmes for officers, delivering lectures on orderly room trial procedures, discipline, and ethical policing.


His elevation to the rank of Commissioner of Police was formally marked during a decoration ceremony at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu decorated him alongside other newly promoted senior officers.


According to The Daily Beam, CP Erale has been deployed to Osun State with immediate effect to oversee security arrangements before, during, and after the governorship election. His appointment comes at a critical time as political parties intensify campaigns and security agencies step up efforts to guarantee a peaceful, credible, and violence-free electoral process.


The deployment is also accompanied by a direct exchange of responsibilities within the Nigeria Police Force. The immediate past Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, has been reassigned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja as Commissioner of Police, Communications Operations, taking over the position previously occupied by CP Erale.


With expectations high and the eyes of the nation on Osun, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale now assumes one of the most sensitive policing assignments in the country, with the responsibility of maintaining law and order while ensuring that residents exercise their democratic rights in a peaceful and secure environment.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
