Nigeria's Army Emerges Africa's Best in Counter-Terrorism Operations

The Nigerian Army has been recognised as Africa's Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025 by African Security Watch, in recognition of its sustained efforts against terrorism and insurgency across the country. 


The award was presented to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, during the 16th African Security Symposium held in Abuja on Wednesday. The organisers said the honour reflects the Nigerian Army's operational successes, resilience, and commitment to restoring peace in areas affected by terrorist activities. 


According to the organisers, the recognition also acknowledges the Army's strategic leadership, improved operational capabilities, and collaboration with regional and international partners in combating terrorism across the continent. 


Speaking after receiving the award on behalf of the Nigerian Army, the Chief of Army Staff dedicated the honour to officers and soldiers serving on the frontlines, describing it as a tribute to their courage, sacrifice, and professionalism.


He reaffirmed the Army's commitment to sustaining the fight against terrorism and other security threats, while pledging to continue working with sister security agencies and international partners to enhance national and regional security. 


The African Security Watch award comes amid ongoing military operations against insurgent groups and other criminal elements in different parts of Nigeria, with the Army saying it remains focused on protecting the country's territorial integrity and ensuring lasting peace.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
