Ogun Ifa Priest Dies After Allegedly Setting Himself Ablaze

Residents of Adebiopon Village in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State were thrown into shock after a 50-year-old traditional priest, Muritala Shodiya, allegedly set himself on fire and later died from severe burns. 


The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening when Shodiya, popularly known as "Ifa" for his fortune-telling and traditional worship practices, poured petrol on himself inside an uncompleted building before igniting the fire. Residents rushed to the scene, extinguished the flames, and took him to the General Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, where he was pronounced dead on Thursday morning. 


Community sources claimed the deceased had shown signs of emotional distress after his wife reportedly left him for another man. Although some initial reports suggested he might have been attacked, residents maintained that he had set himself ablaze. 


A resident identified as Kazeem said villagers did everything possible to save his life after seeing him emerge from a nearby bush engulfed in flames, but the injuries proved fatal. 


Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command said officers visited the scene, documented the case, and had begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
