Osun 2026: APC Candidate Oyebamiji Absent as INEC, Political Parties Sign Peace Accord

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the August 15 Osun State governorship election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, was absent on Thursday as political parties signed the National Peace Committee's Peace Accord in Osogbo.


The ceremony brought together representatives of the 14 political parties, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders, who pledged to promote a peaceful, credible and violence-free election.


Despite the significance of the event, Oyebamiji did not attend the peace accord signing. However, the APC was represented by its deputy governorship candidate, Engr. Kayode Adereti, who was present at the ceremony alongside other party representatives.


During the event, INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, warned politicians and their supporters against violence, voter intimidation and vote buying, stressing that anyone found attempting to disrupt the electoral process would face the full weight of the law.


He disclosed that the commission had completed almost all preparations for the election and would deploy intelligence-led security operations to identified flashpoints across the state. Amupitan also announced that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other security agencies would monitor polling units to curb vote buying and prosecute offenders.


The INEC chairman further assured voters that the recent theft of some uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would not compromise the election, explaining that the stolen cards had been blacklisted and could not be used because accreditation would be conducted through the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).


As of the time of filing this report, the APC had not issued any official statement explaining Oyebamiji's absence from the ceremony. There is also no indication that his absence signified a rejection of the peace accord, as the party was represented by its deputy governorship candidate, Engr. Kayode Adereti, at the event.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
