Osun 2026: Sowore Claims Tinubu Is Using Police, Violence to Rig Election

The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of allegedly orchestrating violence and using security agencies to influence the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.


In a statement on Thursday, Sowore alleged that the Osun governorship poll was unfolding as one of Tinubu's "signature political stunts," characterised by violence, partisan security operations and what he described as preparations for a manipulated electoral process.


According to him, the involvement of the police and other security agencies in the state's political affairs raises concerns about the credibility of the August 15 governorship election.


Sowore also condemned the detention of the Secretary to the Osun State Government (SSG), describing it as unlawful and reflective of what he called Tinubu's style of politics.


"The Osun State election is turning out to be Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's signature political stunt, the introduction of violence, the police and other security agencies taking sides, and ultimately a rigged process," he said.


He added, "The unlawful detention of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) speaks to how Tinubu operates. That is why he says 'all is fair in war.' Tinubu does not believe in democracy, let alone free and fair elections."


Sowore's comments come amid heightened political tensions in Osun State following recent controversies surrounding the arrest of state officials and allegations of intimidation ahead of the governorship election.


The Presidency and relevant security agencies have yet to officially respond to the allegations at the time of filing this report.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
