Osun Poll: Accord House of Reps Candidate 'Abducted' by Police on APC Senator's Orders, Adeleke Campaign Council Alleges

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has accused Senator Francis Fadahunsi of the APC and the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, of orchestrating what it described as a politically motivated arrest of the Accord Party's House of Representatives candidate for Ijesa South Federal Constituency, Popoola Alaba, popularly known as Alabama.


In a statement issued on Saturday, the campaign council alleged that Alaba and three other Accord members were arrested during a meeting with party canvassers by police officers led by one Wemimo, identified as a security aide attached to Senator Fadahunsi.


According to the council, the officers allegedly stormed the meeting venue, physically assaulted several party members, and forcibly took Alaba and the others to the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo.


TICC claimed the arrest was part of a deliberate effort to keep key Accord Party leaders "out of circulation" until after the governorship election.


The council further alleged that the operation stemmed from a recent private meeting involving Senator Fadahunsi, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, and another senior security official, during which, it claimed, Accord leaders were marked for arrest and unlawful detention.


Without providing evidence for the allegation, the campaign council maintained that the police command had abandoned its constitutional responsibility by allegedly engaging in partisan activities.


"We wish to put on record that the Osun State Police Command and its Commissioner, Ibrahim Gotan, will be held responsible if anything untoward happens to Popoola Alaba," the statement said.


The council also linked the alleged arrest to what it described as a wider campaign of intimidation against opposition members, while alleging that security agencies had failed to respond decisively to violent attacks on Accord supporters.


It cited the killing of an Accord member, Yomi David Akanji, who it said was shot dead by suspected political thugs near his residence in Olude, Osogbo, on Friday night. According to the statement, Akanji, a father of three, was ambushed and shot while inside his vehicle.


TICC called for the immediate and unconditional release of Alaba and the other detained party members, insisting that law enforcement agencies must remain neutral and avoid actions capable of undermining the credibility of the electoral process.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
