Osun Poll Tension Deepens as Adeleke Alleges Deliberate Sabotage of LAMECO Bridge, Points Finger at APC

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Friday inspected a reportedly vandalised section of the LAMECO Bridge in Osogbo, alleging that political opponents were behind the damage in what he described as a deliberate attempt to discredit his administration ahead of the state's governorship election.


The governor also referenced a similar incident allegedly recorded at the Lagere Flyover in Ile-Ife, claiming that the acts formed part of a wider campaign of sabotage against public infrastructure.


Speaking during the inspection, Adeleke accused the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating the alleged vandalism, though he did not present evidence publicly linking the party to the incidents.


"This is no longer politics," the governor said. "Elections should be about presenting ideas, programmes and records to the people. It is unacceptable for anyone to allegedly destroy public infrastructure built with taxpayers' money simply to score political points."


He described the alleged sabotage as "a hate crime against the people of Osun State," arguing that damaging bridges and other public facilities puts residents' lives at risk while wasting public resources.


Questioning the motive behind the reported incidents, Adeleke said no responsible political actor should seek electoral advantage through the destruction of government projects.


Following a briefing by officials of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the governor praised engineers for responding swiftly to the reported damage and ordered heightened security around strategic public assets across the state.


"I hereby direct immediate surveillance and monitoring of key infrastructures. We must secure public assets in the best interest of the state and her residents," he said.


The APC had not publicly responded to the governor's allegations as of the time of filing this report.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
