Osun Was Beyond Oyetola's Capacity to Govern — Aregbesola

Former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has criticised his successor, Gboyega Oyetola, declaring that the former governor was not prepared to govern Osun State despite serving a four-year term.


Aregbesola made the remarks while addressing supporters during the ADC governorship campaign rally in Ile-Ife in support of the party's governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salam.


Speaking in Yoruba, Aregbesola recalled the events that led to Oyetola's emergence as governor in 2018. According to him, he worked tirelessly to ensure Oyetola succeeded him after party leaders insisted he was their preferred candidate.


The former Minister of Interior, however, said he later realised that governing Osun required greater capacity than Oyetola possessed, arguing that the state's leadership demands competence, vision and the ability to deliver meaningful development.



Taking a swipe at the current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Aregbesola maintained that Osun was "too big" for Oyetola to govern effectively, insisting that the state deserves a leader with the experience and capability to address its challenges.


He urged residents of the state to support the ADC in the forthcoming governorship election, expressing confidence that the party's candidate, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salam, has the competence and experience needed to provide quality leadership and move Osun forward.


During the visit, Aregbesola also reflected on the significance of Ile-Ife, describing the ancient city as the cradle of the Yoruba race and a place of immense cultural and historical importance. He recalled visiting the palace of the Ooni of Ife eight years ago alongside Oyetola and reaffirmed his enduring respect for the traditional institution and the people of Ile-Ife.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
