Tinubu Launches Training Programme for 5,000 Meter Installers

President Bola Tinubu has unveiled a new training programme aimed at equipping 5,000 young Nigerians with skills as meter installers and technicians under the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI).


The initiative, tagged The Power Force, is designed to create employment opportunities, bridge Nigeria's electricity metering gap, improve power supply and eliminate estimated billing. The President announced the programme in a statement released on Thursday as part of his administration's Renewed Hope Agenda. 


According to Tinubu, participants will receive practical technical training and be connected to job opportunities within the nation's power sector.


The President explained that the programme is open to qualified Nigerians who have completed their secondary school education, while a special quota has been reserved for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). 


Tinubu noted that wider electricity metering would ensure consumers pay only for the power they use, while enabling electricity distribution companies to improve transparency, reduce losses, maintain infrastructure and provide better services.


He directed the Presidential Metering Initiative to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria and other relevant stakeholders to commence the programme within the next 30 days.


The President urged eligible youths to apply, describing the initiative as an opportunity to acquire valuable skills, earn a living with dignity and contribute to ending estimated billing across the country.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit. The development marks another early gain for Accord as the collation of results from polling units across Osun State continues.
